RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team opened 2025 with an impressive 75-54 victory over UC Santa Cruz at the UTD Activity Center Thursday afternoon.
The Comets (8-5) stifled the Banana Slugs (5-12) early, leading 22-7 after the first period and limiting the Golden State squad to just 2-of-12 shooting (16.7 percent). UTD maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the game and led by as many as 23 points.
The Comets shot 42.6 percent (29-of-68) overall, 11-of-23 from outside and 6-of-8 at the free throw line with 44 rebounds, 23 assists, 12 turnovers, five blocks and eight steals.
UCSC shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field, 6-of-19 from three-point range and 6-of-10 at the stripe with 31 rebounds, 10 assists, 15 turnovers, three blocks and eight steals.
UTD set or tied season-highs in three-pointers made (11), three-point percentage (47.8), offensive rebounds (21), assists (23) and blocks (5). The Banana Slugs' six free throws made are the fewest against the Comets this season.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets improve to 8-0 on the year against NCAA Division III schools.
- Guard
Anna Yellen led UTD with 17 points, making a career-high five three-pointers. She also grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists.
- Freshman center
Ellery Sample came off the bench to record eight points, 10 rebounds - seven of which were offensive, three assists, two blocks and a steal.
- Senior guard
Alex Bowman scored eight points and went 2-for-2 at the free throw line. She is now 30-for-31 at the stripe dating back to November 16.
- Freshman guard
Jayla Lewis was 3-for-3 overall, hitting a pair of three-pointers, for eight points.
- Senior guard
Cierra Trigg also had eight points.
- Junior forward
Liv Pedigo scored seven points and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds.
- Junior
Raven Busby scored a season-high seven rebounds to go with four boards and a steal.
UC Santa Cruz Notes
- Emile Ngo went 8-for-10 shooting, en route to 18 points. She also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Jenna Groton had 12 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.
- Glaire Galbo added seven points and six rebounds.
- Alexa Litchev also scored seven.
