RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team took advantage of a bench technical foul with 0.7 seconds left to defeat East Texas Baptist 48-46 at the Activity Center Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (12-6) were about to inbound the ball after a timeout when the Tigers (16-4) were caught with six players on the floor, resulting in the technical. Graduate student forward
Anna Yellen sank both free throws to ice the victory for UTD.
The game was a low-scoring, defensive battle with six points being the biggest advantage either team would have. The Comets led 36-33 going into the final quarter, but a three-point pay by Kadia Ward tied the game up with 7:09 to play.
From there, the teams exchanged leads five times with three more ties. ETBU led 46-40 with just under four minutes remaining. Baskets from
Addy Self,
Cierra Trigg and
Amanda Crowninshield over the Comets' next three possessions knotted the game back at 46 at the 2:03 mark.
Both teams recorded defensive stops on the next two possessions. After an ETBU miss, senior guard
Trystan Clark grabbed the rebound with 26 seconds left. The Comets called another timeout with 0.7 seconds left, leading to technical on the Tigers.
