ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team used a big third quarter performance to propel themselves to a 75-72 win over #16/18 Hardin-Simmons at the Mabee Complex Thursday evening.
The Comets (13-6) overcame an early 15-8 deficit with an 8-0 run to end the first quarter and lead the Cowgirls (16-2) by one. Both teams exchanged the advantage in the second with UTD leading 34-30 at halftime.
The Comets shot a scorching 57.1 percent (8-of-14) in the third, while going 10-for-10 at the free throw to pull ahead 62-49 entering the final frame.Â
HSU slowly chipped away at UTD's lead in the fourth quarter, but came up short at 75-72 with 10 seconds left. The Cowgirls missed a pair of three-pointers in the final seven seconds of the game.Â
For the game, the Comets shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) overall, 6-for-16 from outside and 13-of-16 at the line. They also recorded 38 rebounds, 18 assists, 18 turnovers, nine steals and a season-best eight blocked shots.
The Cowgirls shot 39.7 percent (25-for-63) from the field, 6-of-19 from three-point range and 16-of-23 at the free throw line with 38 rebounds, 12 assists, 14 turnovers, five blocks and 14 steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- The victory is the fourth over a top 25 team for third-year head coach

- Graduate student forward
Anna Yellen led UTD with 16 points, hitting four three-pointers. She also grabbed seven rebounds with a block and a steal.
- Senior guard
Alex Bowman scored in double-digits for the 13th time this season, coming up with 15 points. She also had three steals and three assists.
- Junior forward
Addy Self filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, a career-high 14 rebounds, six assists, five steals and another personal-best four blocks. This was her third double-double of the year.

Ellery Sample was 3-for-3 from the field for seven points.
- Senior Trsytan Clark blocked a shot and grabbed a season-high six rebounds.

- Jacqueline Berry led the Cowgirls with 18 points and four steals while pulling down six boards.
- Kynnan Shields was 7-for-9 shooting for 17 points with six rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Madison Williams recorded 14 points, six assists and two steals.
- Aiken Semones added eight points.
- MaeSyn Gay led HSU with 10 rebounds and four blocks.
