RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's basketball team recorded another stellar defensive performance, defeating Howard Payne 65-41 at the UTD Activity Center Thursday night.
The Comets (17-6) started off strong, outscoring the Lady Jackets (4-20) 21-9 in the opening period. UTD went on to take a 35-14 lead into halftime.
The home team shot 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the field in the third quarter and would lead by as many as 27 points before ending the night with the 24-point victory.
Thursday's performance marked the 10th time this season a Comet opponent has scored 50 points or less, including seven of the last eight contests.
UTD shot 44.3 percent (27-for-61) overall, 4-for-17 from three-point range and 7-of-12 from the free throw line. They also recorded 47 rebounds, 19 assists, 17 turnovers, six blocks and 10 steals.
HPU shot 28.3 percent (15-for-53) from the floor, 3-for-20 from outside and 8-of-16 at the line with 29 boards, 11 assists, 19 turnovers, one block and six steals.
UTD has held its opponents to under 30 percent shooting eight times this year.

- Junior forward
Addy Self paced the Comets with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting. She also had five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals.
- Senior guard
Alex Bowman was 6-of-8 for 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

Cierra Trigg posted nine points off the bench, hitting a couple of three-point shots.
