RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team completed the three-game series sweep of Hardin-Simmons by taking both games of Sunday's double-header at UTD Baseball Field. The Comets (6-0) took the seven-inning opener 6-1 before defeating the Cowboys (2-4) 10-5 in the nightcap.
Game 1
UTD took a 4-0 lead in the second after three hits and an error.
Trent McCown had the big blow of the inning, connecting on a two-run single through the left side. An error led to a HSU run in the fourth, but the Comets made it 6-1 in the sixth after a two-run hit up the middle by left fielder
Lucas Rexin.
UTD outhit HSU 8-5 in the opener.
Dylan Collins (2-0) earned the win and Alex Carte (0-2) took the loss on the mound.
Game 2
The Cowboys led 3-0 after the first inning on three hits and an error. McCown doubled in
Albert Garza in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-1.Â
The Comets took the lead with four runs in the sixth.
Nico Fernandez and Rexin each record sacrifice flies in the inning and designated hitter
Kole Kinnison had a two run-single down the right field line. Another McCown double and Fernandez sac fly gave UTD a 7-3 advantage in the seventh.
Josh Ledbetter drove in a run with a double in the top of the eighth and later scored on squeeze by Jimmy Mathis to cut the deficit to 7-5. UTD tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final 10-5 tally. Rexin added another RBI-double and
Jaeger Self posted a sac fly.
The Cowboys outhit the Comets 11-9, but they issued six walks, compared to two for UTD.
Trevor McGrath earned the win in relief with Derek Briden picking up the save. Brady Bennett (1-1) took the loss.
UT Dallas Notes
- Collins struck out six batters over six innings in the opener to improve to 2-0.

Noah Angus recorded a pair of doubles, scored twice, drove in a run and walked in game one.

Thomas Soto had two hits, three runs scored and stole a base on the day.
- McCown was 4-for-8 with three doubles - all in game two - four RBI and a walk.
- Rexin recorded two hits, two runs scored and four RBI.

Jake Nicholson made his Comet debut with three scoreless innings in game two.
- McGrath allowed two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three shutout innings for his first victory of the year.
- Brieden earned his second save in as many days, fanning one in a perfect ninth inning.Â
- The Comets have started 6-0 in a season for just the second time in program history.

- First baseman Brock Calvillo was 3-for-6 with two doubles, with a run scored and a walk.Â
- Shorstop Quincy McGraw had three hits, including a double.
- Justin Blancaflor was 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base in game two.
- Carte allowed three walks, four hits and four unearned runs in 2.2 innings in game one.
- Bennett was tagged for a hit, four runs and a walk with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings in the nightcap.
