UTD Draws 22 Walks in 23-2 Win over ABU

FORT WORTH, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team improved to 7-0 with a 23-2, seven-inning victory over Arlington Baptist at Lon Goldstein Field Tuesday afternoon.

In the win, the Comets set a new school and American Southwest Conference record with 22 walks. They also tied the NCAA Division II record in bases on balls while outhitting the Patriots (10-2) 17-3. 

UTD scored in the first, second, third, fourth and seventh innings and batted around three times. The Comets scored nine runs in the second which was highlighted by a grand slam by center fielder Austin Wallace.

Both of ABU's runs came in the second inning after a pair of hits, a hit batter, a walk and an error.

UT Dallas Notes
- The 22 walks broke the old school record of 17 which was set earlier this season.
- Wallace went 4-for-4 with six RBI. His grand slam was the 40th in program history.
- Senior left fielder Lucas Rexin led off and was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, three walks, a double and a stolen base. He has recorded at least a hit and a run in all seven games this season.
- Shortstop Thomas Soto went 3-for-4 while driving in five runs, scoring three times, drawing a pair of walks and connecting on a double. 
- Kole Kinnison also had two hits, three runs and three walks.
- Catcher Noah Angus scored twice and drew three walks.
- Efren Munoz extended his hitting streak to 10 games dating back to last season with a double.
- First baseman Jayden Chatman scored twice and posted a double.
- Pedro Martinez and Johnny Mahalik both recorded their first hits as Comets.
- Adrian Guerrero Jr. had a RBI-walk and a sac fly.
- In his first appearance at UTD, Alex Merkel earned the win, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three scoreless innings.
- Kasey Klyng and Ben Price each struck out two in the single innings that they worked.

Arlington Baptist Notes 
- Brayden Goins (0-1) took the loss for the Patriots, allowing six hits, six runs and three walks over an inning and a third.
- First baseman Nathan Duvall was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.
- Major Cantrell drove in both runs on a single in the second.
- ABU turned three double plays in the game.

The Comets are off until Friday, March 7 when they open the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. with Otterbein.
