Comets Crush Crusaders to Commence 2025

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball started the 2025 campaign off in explosive fashion, defeating Dallas 10-0 and 20-7 in a pair of seven-inning contests at UTD Baseball Field Saturday.

Game 1
Dylan Collins and Jake Jennings combined for a shutout effort on the mound in the opener. Collins earned the win, throwing five innings and allowing just three hits, two walks while fanning five batters. Jennings gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out one over the final two frames.

After a scoreless first inning, the Comets (2-0) broke the game open with a six-run second. Senior center fielder Jaeger Self hit a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs as the big hit of the inning. UTD would add a single run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Junior right fielder Trent McCown hit a solo home run with two outs in the fourth.

William Mosley took the loss for the Crusaders (0-2), allowing nine hits and seven runs over 2.1 innings.

UTD outhit UD 11-4 in game one.

Game 2
The Comets continued the momentum into the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first. They followed with a five-run second inning, which included a two-run McCown homer over the left center fence.

The Crusaders made the game 8-5 in the top of the fourth after a two-run single from shortstop Dylan Roscopf and a three-run blast to right center by designated hitter Cayden Hohman.

McCown put the game out of reach at 10-5 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run shot to left field - his third home run of the day. UTD tacked on another run in the fifth and nine runs on six hits, three walks, two sacrifice flies and a hit batter in the sixth. 

The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh after an error for the final 20-7 tally.

Anthony France picked up the win in relief with four strikeouts, two walks, three hits and two runs allowed over 2.2 innings. Cortez Seanz allowed six hits, six earned runs and four walks over two innings in the loss.

The Comets outhit the Crusaders 14-7 and drew 11 walks.

UT Dallas Notes
- McCown had an impressive Comet debut, hitting .714 (5-for-7) with six runs, three home runs, seven RBI, 14 total bases and a pair of walks.
- Third baseman Efren Munoz was 5-for-9 with three runs, three RBI and three doubles. All three doubles came in game two.
- Senior left fielder Lucas Rexin was 4-for-8 with four runs scored.
- First baseman Jayden Chatman drive five walks on Saturday while going 2-for-4 with 4 runs scored.
- Albert Garza drew four walks in game two and scored four runs on the day. He also stole two bases.
- Self drove in six runs.
- Kole Kinnison was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in game two.

Dallas Notes
- Hohman hit the three-run homer in game two.
- Roscopf was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the second game.
- First baseman Caleb Hohman hit a pair of doubles in the nightcap.
- Walker Alsobrooks stole a base for UD.

Up Next
The Comets and Crusaders will wrap up the series with a nine-inning contest on Sunday at 1 p.m.
