RICHARDSON, Texas - Junior catcher
Noah Angus hit a solo home run over the fence in left field in the bottom of the ninth to give the UT Dallas baseball team a 7-6 victory over Arlington Baptist at home Tuesday afternoon.
The visiting Patriots (15-5) scored first in the top of the second with a Carter Fagan RBI-single. The Comets (11-1) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame after
Nico Fernandez walked and
Jackson Montee was hit by a pitch. After a walk issued to Angus, second baseman
Adrian Guerrero Jr. singled through the right side, plating Fernandez. Right fielder
Jaeger Self drew a bases loaded walk allowing Montee to score.
Montee led the fourth off with a walk and later scored on a Self ground ball to give UTD a 3-1 advantage. Catcher JP Mendoza scored Alex Aleman in with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make the game 3-2.
The Comets went up 6-2 after
Trent McCown drew a bases loaded walk and two more runs scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth. ABU picked up two more in the seventh and tied the game in the top of the ninth on a two-run single by Mendoza.Â
Angus faced reliever Corbyn Torti (4-1) and took a 2-1 pitch over the fence to give UTD the victory.
The Patriots outhit the Comets 14-8, but the home team drew 10 walks compared to four for the visitors.
UT Dallas Notes
- Angus' home run was his first of the season. He was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks.
- McCown was 3-for-4 with his sixth double of the year.
- Self recorded two runs batted in and stole a base. He now has 14 RBI on the season.
- Montee picked up two walks, was hit by a pitch and scored twice.
- Guerrero recorded a single, a run, a RBI, a walk, a stolen base and two sacrifice bunts.

Luke Nielsen started on the mound, lasting five innings and allowing six hits, two runs and a walk while fanning two batters.

Kasey Klyng (1-0) earned the win by picking up the final two outs of the top of the ninth.

Arlington Baptist Notes
- Mendoza drove in three runs with a single, two walks and a sacrifice fly.
- Third baseman Francisco Ochoa was 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs.
- Troti was 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Aleman scored twice and drew a walk.
- Layne Wilkerson started and lasted five innings, giving up five hits, three runs and five walks with one strikeout.
