LONGVIEW, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team won both games of a double-header against LeTourneau at the LETU Softball Field Saturday afternoon. The Comets (12-7) took the opener 5-1, then defeated the YellowJackets (8-12) 10-0 in five innings.
Game 1
UTD sophomore pitcher
Allison Koch (3-2) threw a three-hitter, allowing one run, two walks and two hit batters with three strikeouts in her longest career outing. Laney Taylor (2-6) took the loss for LeTourneau, allowing eight hits, four runs and two walks with five strikeouts.
The Comets scored the first run of the game in the third when
Claire Pollack,
Cadence Hernandez and
Cole Johnson loaded the bases with three consecutive singles.
Sarah Olenick hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Pollack.
The second run came in the fifth after Johnson reached on a fielders choice and later scored on a RBI-single by
Addison Caddell. UTD went up 5-0 with three runs on four hits and a walk in the sixth.
Avery Martin, Pollack and Olenick each drove in runs in the frame.
The YellowJackets only run came in the sixth when Maddie Flanery led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a grounder by Leighton Landreth.
UTD out hit LETUÂ 11-3 in the game.
Game 2
The Comets outhit the YellowJackets 10-4 in the game as freshmanÂ
Madelyn Denn (6-3) had a complete game shutout in the circle. She allowed the four hits and hit one batter for her second blanking of the season. Kirstin Ferguson (3-5) gave up seven hits, seven earned runs and two walks with one strikeout in the losing effort.
Martin drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle in the top of the first. UTD posted six runs on four hits, a walk and two hit batters in the third. Martin homered to left field, a two-run blast, and Hernandez hit a two-run double to right.
Blair Collier hit a run-scoring double down the left field line and Hoffman had a sac fly in the inning.
Hernandez drove in two more runners with a single up the middle in the fourth inning for the final score.
UT Dallas Notes
- Martin went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, four RBI and her first home run of the season.
- Hernadez was 5-for-6 with four driven in, a run scored and a double
- Olenick went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, two RBI, a stolen base, a sac bunt and a sac fly.
- Pollack had four hits on the day to go with four runs scored.
- Collier had a double and going 2-for-3 with with a RBI in game two.
LeTourneau Notes
- The YellowJackets did not record an extra base hit in either game.
- Landreth had the only RBI of the day.
- Flanery scored, walked and stole a base.
- Jenna Carter was hit by a pitch twice and stole two bases
