RICHARDSON, Texas - Junior right fielder
Trent McCown drove in
Jackson Montee in the bottom of the 10th to give the UT Dallas baseball team a 1-0, walkoff victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor at UTD Baseball Field Thursday afternoon.
The Comets (24-3) used a stellar pitching performance from starter
Dylan Collins to keep the Cru (17-11) off the board. Collins threw nine innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with six strikeouts on just 90 pitches.
Jake Jennings (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless 10th inning.
UMHB freshman starter Kolby McBee was just as effective, allowing just two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over six frames. Preston Blake threw a perfect seventh inning, then Isaac Brann (0-1) kept UTD off the board for 2.2 innings, before giving up the game-winning run.
With one out in the bottom of the 10th, Montee singled to right center and second baseman
Albert Garza was hit by a pitch. After a lineout to center field, McCown took an 0-2 count and drove the ball through the left side, plating Montee for the victory.
UT Dallas Notes
- It was the longest outing in Collins' career as he retired 10 consecutive batters between the third and sixth innings. He leads the Comets with 38 strikeouts on the year.
- Jennings recorded his 12th scoreless appearance of the year, lowering his ERA to 0.54. It was the second time this season Collins and Jennings have combined for a shutout.
- McCown went 2-for-4 with a walk and the game-winning RBI. He leads UTD with 38 runs batted in this season.
- Garza was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a hit by pitch.
- Montee was 1-for-4 and scored the game-winning run.

Thomas Soto was exceptional in the field, recording two putouts and eight assists.
Mary Hardin-Baylor Notes
- First baseman Shane Melick recorded three of the Cru's four hits, all singles. He also stole a base.
- Alejandro Sanchez II recorded a double.Â
- Carson Hagan drew the only walk allowed.Â
