BELTON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team split a Saturday afternoon double-header with Mary Hardin-Baylor at Dee Dillon Field. The Comets (13-12) won the first game 1-0, while the Cru (19-11) took the nightcap 4-0.
Game 1
Freshman shortstop
Sarah Olenick singled to left center, moved to second on a
Mikayla Hoffman walk and scored on a failed pickoff attempt in the top of the first for the only run of the game.
From there, freshmen
Erika Fedak and
Madelyn Denn combined for the eight-hit shutout. Fedak started and allowed four hits and one run over 3.2 innings. Denn (7-4) gave up just four hits over 3.1 innings for the win. Eileigh Whyte (9-5) was tagged with the loss for UMHB, striking out five while giving up seven hits, a walk and an unearned run.
UTD freshman left fielder
Julia Maniscalco made back-to-back diving catches in the second inning to save a pair of hits.Â
Fedak managed to retire seven consecutive batters between the second and fourth innings.Â
The game was the third shutout of the season for the Comets.
Olenick went 2-for-3 for the UTD, scoring the only run.
Cadence Hernandez and
Avery Martin each recorded a double.
Shortstop Lindsey Polleschultz was 2-for-4 with a double for the Cru. Bryton Wright went 2-for-3.
Game 2
UMHB scored all four runs on two hits, an error and a pair of walks in the third. Center fielder Taylor Henken drew a bases-loaded walk and Tori Skinner had a two-run double in the inning. Bailey Frenzel laid down a squeeze bunt for the final run.Â
Cru pitcher Chloee Miller (4-4) earned the win, allowing two walks and three hits over five innings. Wright struck out two and gave up two hits in the final two innings.
Brooke Bouldin (1-2) took the loss for UTD.
Allison Koch fanned three batters over 3.2 scoreless innings.
Center fielder
Claire Pollack was 2-for-3 for the Comets.
Gracelyn Taylor, Maniscalco and
Cole Johnson each had a single as well.Â
Skinner was 2-for-3 with the two-run double. Frenzel and Gabriela Vela also had singles.
