RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team celebrated senior day at UTD Softball Field Friday evening and came up with a double-header split against LeTourneau. The YellowJackets (13-25) took game one 3-1, but the Comets (14-17) rebounded with a 5-2 victory.
Seniors
Addison Caddell,
Megan Cavazos,
Mikayla Hoffman,
Cole Johnson,
Holly Selldin,
Gracelyn Taylor and
Riley Westmoreland were honored between games.Â
Game 1
LeTourneau scored all three runs in the top of the first, including a two-run homer by second baseman Leighton Landreth.Â
In the bottom of the second, Caddell singled to third base and scored on aÂ
Claire Pollack hit up the middle for UTD's only run of the game.
The YellowJackets outhit the Comets 9-6. Laney Taylor (5-12) earned the victory in the circle, allowing six hits, a run and a walk with three strikeouts over seven innings.
Erika Fedak (2-3) threw the first innings in the losing effort.
Madelyn Denn threw five scoreless frames, allowing six hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Freshman
Julia Maniscalco had the only extra-base hit with a double. Johnson was hit by a pitch. It was the 27th hit batter for the Comets this season, breaking the school record set in 2004.Â
Kylie Grisham was 2-for-4 with a double and a steal for LeTourneau. Raina Doggett was 2-for-3 with a double.Â
Game 2
The senior class came up big for the Comets in the nightcap, recording all five RBI. Hoffman got things going in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer to left field - her fourth of the year.
After a YellowJacket run in the top of the second, Selldin hit a solo home run over the center field fence to give UTD a 3-1 advantage. A sac fly in the fourth made the game 3-2.Â
In the fifth, Taylor led off with a double and Maniscalco singled, moving her to third. After a ground out, Caddell singled to left, plating Taylor. Johnson then drove in the final run of the game, scoring Maniscalco.
Sophomore pitcher
Allison Koch (4-5) went the distance, allowing just four hits, two runs and two walks with three strikeouts for the victory. Kirstin Ferguson (5-11) took the loss for the YellowJackets.
The Comets recorded nine hits and drew six walks in the game. Selldin's home run was the first of her career. Denn also recorded her first career base hit at the plate.
Maddi Smith was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for LeTourneau.
