AUSTIN, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team's bullpen only allowed five base runners in the last 21 outs as they defeated #17/19 Concordia Texas 6-5 in 10 innings at Gardner-Boggs Field Tuesday afternoon.
After giving up four runs through the first four-plus frames, Comet (23-3) relievers
Derek Brieden,
Kenny Garza,
Ethan Vandament,
Kasey Klyng and
Jake Jennings shut down the Tornados (23-8), for virtually seven innings.Â
Logan Smith gave Concordia a lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run single up the middle. UTD tied it up in the top of the third after
Jackson Montee led off with a single, followed by an
Adrian Guerrero Jr. double to put two runners on.
Thomas Soto and
Lucas Rexin drove in the runners on consecutive ground balls.Â
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Colby Christian doubled and scored on a base hit to left field by Bo Dinscore to give the home team a 3-2 advantage. The Comets regained a 4-3 lead with two runs in the fourth.
Jayden Chatman drove in
Kole Kinnison, who led off on a double, with a ground ball.
Jackson Montee plated
Nico Fernandez, who singled and moved to second on an error, with a base hit.
The Tornados loaded the bases to begin the fourth and second baseman Aaron Gomez knocked in a pair of runs with a single up the middle to put them up 5-4. Brieden came in and got out of the jam with a strikeout and double play ball.
Lucas Rexin singled, followed by
Trent McCown and Kinnison walks to load the bases for the Comets in the fifth.
Austin Wallace knotted the contest with a sac fly, scoring Rexin.Â
The game remained tied until the top of the 10th when McCown led off with a double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Kinnison single through the right side.
Jake Jennings took the mound in the bottom of the 10th and retired the side for his fifth save of the season.
UTD outhit CTX 12-9 in the game.

- Jennings earned his fifth save in the last six outings and has 11 scoreless appearances this season. He moved into fifth on UTD's career list with eight saves.
- Junior
Kasey Klyng threw a perfect ninth inning to move to 3-0 on the year.
- Brieden fanned two batters over two innings.
- Garza threw two perfect innings as well.
- McCown went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
- Kinnison was also 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
- Guerrero recorded a single and a double and scored.
- Montee came up with a pair of base hits.
Concordia Texas Notes
- Ralph Wallace III (2-1) took the loss, allowing two hits and one run in two innings.
- Brady Staedtler, Brandon Hutchings and Jake Runnells each had a scoreless outing.Â
- Starter Dakota Palmer struck out three and allowed one hit and one walk in two innings.Â
- Eric Garcia was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases.Â
- Smith and Gomez each drove in two runs.
- Matthew Armes singled, scored and stole two bases.
