GUNNISON, Colo. - The UT Dallas women's soccer team punched in four goals in the final 24 minutes, overcoming a two-goal deficit for a 5-3 victory over Western Colorado at Katy O. Rady Field Friday night.
The first half between the Comets (2-0-1) and the Mountaineers (0-4) began with a strong offensive effort by sophomore
Jules Chavez, who scored in the 20th minute, giving UTD an early lead. WCU quickly responded, equalizing in the 22nd minute with a goal from Madilyn Reser, assisted by Lauren Kindt. The home team capitalized on its momentum, taking the lead in the 33rd minute with Natsuki Murakami's goal. The Comets attempted to regain control with several shots and corner kicks, but WCU's defense held firm, ending the half with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half began with Murakami converting a penalty kick in the 49th minute. The Comets responded with
Gabby Thompson equalizing with a penalty kick of her own goal in the 66th minute, followed swiftly by
Chelsea Vilca's goal at 67:30 to tie at 3-3. Vilca continued her offensive surge, scoring again in the 76th minute to give the Comets the lead. Thompson sealed the victory for UTD with a goal assisted by Chavez in the final moments of the match, ending the game with a 5-3 win.
The Comets outshot the Mountaineers 24-5 overall and 11-4 on goal.
