LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The UT Dallas women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season as they defeated Colorado Christian 1-0 on Sunday at Trailblazer Stadium. The Comets (3-0-1) wrapped up their trip to Colorado with a pair of victories as they secured their second shutout of the season.
Both teams tested the waters early, as
Viviana Duarte of UTD fired a shot wide left at the 1:04 mark. The Cougars' (1-2) Justine Moreau found herself active offensively, taking three shots, including one that hit the top woodwork at 4:26, but was unable to convert. The pivotal moment came at 39:45 when
Gabby Thompson of the Comets scored after splitting a pair of defenders, assisted by
Grace Pritchard, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Keeper
McKenzie Hunninghake played an instrumental role for UTD, making crucial saves, including a key stop against Ava Dinverno's shot at the 44:33 mark, preserving the lead into halftime.
The Comets applied pressure early in the second half with a corner kick at the 50:16 mark, but were unable to capitalize. CCU responded with shots from Noelle Mingo and Justine Moreau, although neither found the target. As the half progressed, the Comets increased their offensive efforts with multiple corner kicks and shots, including an attempt by
Chelsea Vilca in the 82nd minute. Despite the increased attack, the half ended scoreless, maintaining the Comets' 1-0 lead from the first half.
The Comets outshot the Cougars 11-7 overall, with both teams taking two shots on goal.
