UTD Earns Second Straight Shutout with 2-0 Win at LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas — The UT Dallas men's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory over Lubbock Christian on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex in non-conference action. The Comets (2-2) took control with a goal in each half, while their defense held the Chaparrals (1-3) to zero shots on goal. It was the second consecutive shutout for UTD.

The Comets took an early lead in the first half with a goal by Callum Thompson in the 13th minute, assisted by Luke Harris' free kick. UTD maintained offensive pressure with four corner kicks and multiple shots on goal, including attempts by Evan Pustejovsky and Josh Zemanski, both saved by the Chaparrals' goalkeeper, Connor Pettigrew. The Chaps struggled to create scoring opportunities and faced disciplinary issues, with Andrea Monticelli and Ty Gibbs receiving yellow cards late in the half. The half concluded with the Comets leading 1-0, highlighting their strong start and defensive discipline.

The second half began with UTD maintaining their momentum, as Harris scored with a rocket from the top of the box in the 50th minute, extending their lead to 2-0. LCU struggled to convert their attempts, with Francisco Horta and Lucas missing shots early in the half. The home team faced further difficulties when they were issued a red card in the 83rd minute, reducing the Chaps to ten players. Despite multiple attempts, LCU was unable to score, resulting in a 2-0 victory for the Comets.

UTD outshot LCU 9-6 overall and 5-0 on goal. The defensive tandem of Thompson, Avery Estell, Aiden Currie, Tabor Robinson and Ryan Anderson each played 90 minutes and limited the Chaps' offensive effort.
