RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team overcame a late deficit against St. Mary's for the program's first Lone Star Conference victory.
Trailing 2-1 with 26 minutes remaining, the Comets (4-0-1, 1-0 LSC) tied the game on a
Chelsea Vilca goal snaked from the right side after a pass by
Gabby Thompson in the 75th minute. The game-winner came from freshman
Grace Pritchard on an arching rocket off the crossbar with 10:15 remaining.Â
In the first half, both teams showed strong defensive efforts, with goalkeepers
McKenzie Hunninghake and Haley Faucette making key saves early in the match. The Rattlers (1-2-1, 0-1 LSC) took the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from Malia Dominguez, assisted by Natalya Hendrus. The Comets responded in the 37th minute when Pritchard scored, with an assist from Thompson, leveling the score at 1-1.Â
StMU took a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute on a penalty kick goal from Shelby Paniagua.Â
The Rattlers outshot the Comets 11-8 overall but both teams had five shots on goal.
