Mustangs Hand Comets First Loss

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The UT Dallas women's soccer team suffered its first loss of 2025, falling to Midwestern State University 2-1 on Saturday at Stang Park. The Comets are now 4-1-1 overall and 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Mustangs are 1-1-3 and 1-0-1. MSU led in shots 17-7 overall and 7-4 on goal.

Highlights
First Half
- UTD goalkeeper McKenzie Hunninghake was tested early with a save at 5:58 on a shot by MSU's Nyxalee Munoz, marking the first threat from the home team.
- Tanner Sorenson of the Mustangs made a crucial save at 9:00, stopping a shot by Kira Schkade aimed at the bottom center of the goal, maintaining the scoreline.
- MSU faced two offside calls in quick succession at 17:33 and 19:17, hindering their attacking momentum.
- Gabby Thompson's attempt for UTD at 21:39 went over the top, followed by a strong save by Hunninghake at 23:19 on a shot from Ashlynn Knight, punctuating a defensive half for both teams.

Second Half
- Taryn Sueltz opened the scoring for MSU with a goal at the 57:31 mark, giving them a 1-0 lead.
- Munoz extended the Mustangs' lead to 2-0 at 64:10, assisted by Leeci Snyder.
- Gabby Thompson responded for the Comets with a goal at 70:45, scoring on a rebound off a blocked shot. 
-  Hunninghake made crucial saves throughout the period, including a key stop on a shot by Abbey Lee in the 83rd minute, keeping the Comets within striking distance.
