Comets Drop Four-Setter to Hilltoppers

AUSTIN, Texas - The UT Dallas volleyball team lost the opening match of the LSC Challenge to St. Edward's 25-14, 12-25, 25-20, 25-14 on Thursday at the SEU Recreation and Convocation Center.

First Set  
- The Comets (2-7) initially kept pace with the Hilltoppers (2-2), tying the score at 7-7 following an attack error from the hosts.  
- St. Edward's gained momentum with five consecutive service aces by Althea Morris, extending the lead to 12-7.  
- Jane Burkhardt registered multiple kills for the Comets.
- Delaney Gregory and Katherine Neille each delivered key kills for SEU, who maintained control and sealed the set 25-14 with a kill by Kelli Fording.

Second Set
- UTD opened the set with a service ace from Sydney Sabin, quickly setting the tone for the game.
- Laura See and Moriah Johnson anchored a 6-0 run that extended the lead to 7-1, including a pair of kills from See.  
- Abby Gentner's service ace at 12-3 highlighted a stretch where the Comets capitalized on the Hilltoppers' errors.  
- Burkhardt's kill brought the Comets to set point, and a subsequent service error by SEU sealed the 25-12 victory.

Third Set
- The Hilltoppers capitalized on early errors by the Comets to take a quick 3-0 lead, including a service ace by Althea Morris.  
- The Comets fought back with a service ace from Burkhardt and a kill by See, narrowing the gap to 3-4.  
- St. Edward's went on a 7-2 run, extending their lead to 18-10, aided by multiple kills from Fording and a service ace from Brenna Heffron.  
- The Comets mounted a late rally, securing five consecutive points to make it 22-18, highlighted by a block from See and Jada Williams.  
- SEU closed the set 25-20 after a kill by Landry Baughman, securing their victory in the set.  

Fourth Set
- St. Edward's opened the set with a 6-1 run, highlighted by two kills from Baughman and a service ace by Carrington Jaimes.  
- The Comets responded with a 4-0 run to narrow the gap to 7-5, featuring kills from Johnson.  
- The Hilltoppers pulled ahead with another 6-0 stretch, including two kills and a service ace by Fording, making it 11-5.  
- Baughman delivered a decisive performance late in the set, contributing a kill and two service aces to cap a 5-0 run and secure the 25-14 victory for St. Edward's.
