UTD Women's Soccer Opens D-II Era with 5-0 Victory

RICHARDSON, Texas — The UT Dallas women's soccer team opened the 2025 campaign and the NCAA Division II era with a decisive 5-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist at UTD Soccer Field Thursday night. The Comets (1-0) dominated with nine shots on goal compared to the Bison's (0-1) two, with a standout performance from the home team's defense securing the clean sheet. UTD capitalized on its offensive opportunities, scoring three goals in the first half and adding two more in the second.

The first half saw UTD take command early, with senior Chelsea Vilca scoring twice in quick succession at the 21st and 23rd minutes to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Vilca's first goal came with an assist from Kira Schkade, while her second was unassisted. The 65 seconds between goals was the fourth-fastest time for consecutive goals by one player in program history.

The Comets extended their lead to 3-0 when Gabby Thompson found the back of the net in the 35th minute, assisted by Vilca. Despite an initial save by Jolee King on a shot from Jules Chavez, OBU struggled to contain the UTD offense throughout the half.

The second half began with UTD maintaining control, despite Oklahoma Baptist's early shot attempts. Hali White of the Bison made two shot attempts early in the half, but was unable to find the net, with McKenzie Hunninghake making a key save at 55:07. The Comets capitalized on their opportunities, with Thompson converting a penalty kick at 60 minutes to extend their lead. Freshman Grace Pritchard further secured the victory for UTD with a goal at the 71st minute, assisted by Jules Chavez, bringing the score to 5-0. Despite several fouls and a shot by Vilca hitting the left woodwork, the Comets maintained their lead, and OBU was unable to break through the defense.

Graduate student center back Lina Ullen played all 90 minutes to anchor the UTD defensive effort. Kaley Robison, Amelia Griffin and Schkade started on the back line and were relieved by Nailea Lorenzo, Rowen Hughes and Regan Alt.
