Comets and Hillcats Battle to 1-1 Draw

CLAREMORE, Okla. - UT Dallas and Rogers State played to a 1-1 draw in women's soccer action at Soldier Field Saturday night.

The Comets (1-0-1) fired 39 shots, with 17 on target, but Hillcats' (0-1-1) goalkeeper Calais Butts turned away 16 attempts.

The first half saw UTD apply offensive pressure with multiple attempts early on, as Butts saved Maya Walker's shot in the second minute. Chelsea Vilca continued the aggressive pursuit with four shots within a span of seven minutes, though none found the net. RSU's defense held firm despite seeing seven shots on goal, with Butts making key saves, including a crucial one against Kira Schkade's attempt in the 22nd minute. The Hillcats capitalized on their opportunity late in the period when Delana King scored in the 40th minute, assisted by Rylee Shroder, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half began with a strong offensive push from UTD, evidenced by Gabby Thompson's shot just after a corner kick in the 46th minute. Despite early fouls from the Hillcats, the Comets capitalized in the 54th minute when Vilca scored, leveling the match at 1-1. RSU responded with attempts from Te Waiariki Read and Hannah Schulze, but McKenzie Hunninghake's crucial saves denied both. As the half progressed, UTD maintained pressure with a series of shots, including multiple attempts by Walker and Viviana Duarte, all thwarted by Butts' goalkeeping.
