Comets Fall to Griffins in Season Opener

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The UT Dallas men's soccer team opened the 2025 season with a 2-0 loss to Westminster (Utah) on Friday at Community Hospital Unity Field.

The first half began with the Griffins (1-0) quickly taking the lead when Broc Underhill scored just 37 seconds into the game, assisted by Chase Kluksdal and James Miles. The Comets (0-1) pressured, with Aiden Currie and Ryan Anderson both having shots saved by WU's goalkeeper, Tommy Manwaring. Ross Versari, the Comets' goalkeeper, was active, making critical saves, including one against Owen Gallo in the 15th minute, to keep the score within reach.

Westminster's Cole Williams extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 81st minute, assisted by Parker Stebbing and George Acurero. The Comets responded with increased offensive pressure, but shots by Avery Estell and Kingsley Annan were off-target, and Manwaring saved Osi Iyamah's attempt. Despite several fouls and yellow cards issued to both teams, Westminster maintained its defensive stance to secure the victory.

The Griffins led 15-7 in shots taken, but both teams had four shots on goal.
