RICHARDSON, Texas - For the fourth consecutive week, the UT Dallas baseball team opened its Lone Star Conference series with a victory, this time defeating Eastern New Mexico 14-3 in seven innings at home on Friday.
The Comets (7-4 LSC) outhit the Greyhounds (2-9 LSC) 13-5 and scored 14 unanswered runs.
ENMUÂ scored a pair of runs on three hits in the top of the first, including a Jake Willerup double that scored Eiji Sawamura. In the second, Jackson Meng walked and scored on a Cole Curtis triple to give the Greyhounds a 3-0 advantage.
Senior right fielder
Trent McCown started the bottom of the second with a rocket blast to deep left field - his third home run of the season.
UTD sophomore pitcher
Luke Nielsen entered the game in emergency relief in the top of the third and retired the first seven batters he faced. Meanwhile, the Comets scored a run in the bottom of the third and took a 6-3 lead on three hits and four walks in the fourth.
Alex Miller recorded an RBI-double,
Austin Wallace drove in Miller with a triple and scored on a wild pitch and McCown later drew a bases-loaded walk.
Freshman second baseman
Gavin Barker singled and scored on a Miller base hit in the fifth. UTD followed with a seven-run sixth inning, which included a two-run single down the right field line by Wallace and a three-run double by shortstop
Jake Amoroso.
Senior right-hander
Kasey Klyng finished the game on the mound with two scoreless frames.
UT Dallas Performances
- Nielsen (2-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing two walks, no hits and striking out two. He also picked off a runner at second base.
- Wallace drove in three runs and scored three times with two hits, including the triple. He was also hit by a pitch.
- Amoroso went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of doubles.Â
- McCown's home run was the 16th of his career.
- Miller recorded two hits, two runs and two RBI.
- Barker extended his hitting streak to seven games with a pair of singles and two walks.
Eastern New Mexico Performances
- Sawamura was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, run and a stolen base.
- Curtis went 2-for-4 with a triple.
- Jake Willerup recorded an RBI-double.
- Starter Cole Lancaster (1-3) allowed seven hits, six runs, three walks and three strikeouts over 3.2 innings in the loss.
