RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team finished a four-game Lone Star Conference sweep of Eastern New Mexico with a 3-2 victory at UTD Baseball Field Sunday afternoon.
Junior starter
Seth Taylor gave up a solo home run to designated Jake Willerup in the top of the second, but went on to hold the Greyhounds' (2-12 LSC) offense in check, allowing just four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.Â
The Comets (10-4 LSC) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, first baseman
Korson Hastings doubled to left center, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield single by
Alex Miller. With the bases loaded and one out in the fifth,
Kole Kinnison drove in
Chris Benavidez with a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead.
Trent McCown followed with an infield hit to load the bases and Hastings was hit by a pitch, plating
Austin Wallace for a 3-1 advantage.
Catcher Gaston Galvan drove in Ryan Weaver, who walked earlier in the inning, with a single through the left side in the top of the ninth for the final 3-2 score.
UT Dallas Performances
- Taylor improved to 2-1 on the season.
- Senior
Christian Robb earned his first save of the season, allowing two hits, one run and a walk with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
- Benavidez was 2-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Hastings doubled, drove in a run, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored.
- Kinnison, McCown, Miller and
Nico Fernandez each singled.Â
Eastern New Mexico Performances
- Starter Charlie Pierson (0-3) gave up four hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out six batters in five innings.
- Demitrius DiMatteo threw three scoreless frames, recorded two strikeouts, two walks and three hits allowed.
- Shortstop Isaiah Figueroa went 3-for-4 at the plate.
- Willerup hit his third home run of the series.
