LUBBOCK, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team opened its four-game Lone Star Conference series with Lubbock Christian with a 12-2, seven-inning loss at Hays Field Friday afternoon.
The defeat was the first in a series-opener in five tries for the Comets (10-5 LSC) and the first time the run-rule has been used against them.
The Chaparrals (6-9 LSC) outhit the visitors 14-5 and drew seven walks, compared to four for UTD.
LCU led 9-0 after five innings before UTD put up both of its runs in the top of the sixth. Sophomore
Kole Kinnison led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. First baseman
Korson Hastings doubled in Kinnison for the first run. Senior catcher
Nico Fernandez followed later in the frame with a single up the middle, plating Hastings.
The Chaps ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run single from Owen Alsup and an RBI base hit off the bat of Roe Forrest.Â
UT Dallas Performances
- Fernandez was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. He also threw out a runner trying to steal, giving him 20 career runners thrown out in his career.
- Hastings recorded his fifth double of the season and drew a walk.
- Kinnison doubled and was hit by a pitch.

Todd Baffa made his Comet debut and recorded a pinch-hit single.

Lubbock Christian Performances
- Shortstop Dylan Marx posted a three-run triple.
- Tanner Pachorek was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a walk and two doubles.
- Forrest was 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI, walk, double and steal.
- Aiden Moore (1-0) earned the win, allowing three walks with two strikeouts in 2.1 scoreless innings.
- Kyle England threw four innings and picked up a save.
