RICHARDSON, Texas - UT Dallas inducted a record 29 student-athletes into the Richardson Chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society in a ceremony Sunday night. The society recognizes student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and competition.
In four years, a total of 106 Comets have now been inducted into XAΣ.
"I have been fortunate to have a front row seat to the excellence of our student-athletes, and I am ecstatic that we were able to celebrate 29 student-athletes tonight who have accomplished so much during their time here at UTD," said Jordan Anchundia, Assistant Athletic Director - Academic Success and Chi Alpha Sigma Advisor. "This ceremony is about celebrating the journey of a student-athlete, and to be able to celebrate alongside friends, families, and coaches is a special experience for everyone involved."
Chi Alpha Sigma was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.
To be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university that is a member of the NCAA, NAIA, USCAA or NCCAA. The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Comet senior men's tennis player Benjamin Dubois is the president of the Texas Rho Chapter. Junior women's golfer Hayden Trost is the vice president.
