LUBBOCK, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team took the series finale against Lubbock Christian 18-13 at Hays Field Sunday afternoon.
The Comets (11-7 Lone Star Conference) recorded 19 hits - 11 for extra bases. The Chaps (8-10 LSC) had 15 hits, but only four extra base knocks, and stole nine bases.
UTD went up 5-0 in the third after a three-run home run from
Nico Fernandez and a two-run blast by
Alex Miller.
Kole Kinnison posted a two-run double in the fourth to give the Comets a 7-0 advantage.
LCU got on the board with a two-run homer by Owen Alsup in the bottom of the fourth.
The Comets picked up another run in the fifth, while the Chaps scored four runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 8-6. UTD scored again in the sixth for a 9-6 lead.
LCU took the lead with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth. They tacked on two more runs in the seventh to go up 13-9.
The Comets regained the lead with eight runs on seven hits in the eighth. Highlights of the inning included a bases-clearing triple by
Austin Wallace and an RBI-triple from Fernandez.
Chris Benavidez homered to right field for the final run in the ninth.
UT Dallas Performances
- Fernandez drove in four runs and scored three times with the home run and triple.
- Kinnison went 4-for-5 with three RBI, three doubles and a sacrifice fly.
- Miller was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and the two-run homer and a double.
- Benavidez went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI and a home run.
- Wallace recorded three hits, including the three-run triple and scored three times.

Landry Powell struck out five batters over four innings in the start.

- Alsup went 4-for-5 with four RB, a home run and a walk.
- Kyle Lewis was 3-for-4 with three runs, two walks and four stolen bases.
- Roe Forrest drove in three runs, doubled and stole a base.
