SAN ANGELO, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team dominated the second game of the series against #13/20/22 Angelo State 16-5 in seven innings Saturday evening.
The Comets (17-7 Lone Star Conference) outhit the Rams (16-8 LSC) 22-8 to improve to 2-0 in the four-game series at Foster Field.
Second baseman
Albert Garza led the game off with a single, stole second and scored on a
Nico Fernandez double. UTD then posted a seven-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run homer to left field by right fielder
Trent McCown.
Fernandez hit a two-run blast to center field to put the Comets up 10-0 in the third.
UTD starter
David Dean retired the first nine batters of the game before giving up a base hit to Brett Smajstrla to start the fourth. Smajstrla later scored on a Payton Bush ground-out.
The Comets tacked on four more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Tate Greene hit a two-run triple for ASU in the bottom of the sixth to make the game 16-3. The Rams scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final 16-5 tally.
UT Dallas Performances
- Dean (3-0) went six frames, allowing six hits, three runs and a walk with one strikeout.
- Fernandez was 4-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, a walk, a double and a home run - his third of the season.
- McCown's home run was his seventh of the season and 20th of his career, moving him into a tie for third place on the UTD career list. He was 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
- Garza went 3-for-3 with four runs scored, an RBI, a hit by pitch and a stolen base. He is now tied for the UTD career record with 32 hits by pitch.

Kole Kinnison was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. He tied the Comet single-season record with his seventh sacrifice fly of the season and broke the career mark with 11.

- Smajstrla was 2-for-4 with two runs, a triple and an RBI.
- Greene drove in two runs with his triple.
- Kannon Brooks was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
- Rams' starter Ryan Cook (3-1) allowed six runs and seven hits with one strikeout over 1.1 innings.
