SAN ANGELO, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team won the finale 5-1 against #13/20/22 Angelo State on Sunday at Foster Field to capture the Lone Star Conference series three games to one.
The Comets (18-8 LSC) finished off the weekend by outhitting the Rams (17-9 LSC) 8-3.Â
UTD is now in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings.
With two outs in the first,
Kole Kinnison singled and
Trent McCown drew a walk. Shortstop
Jake Amoroso followed with a base hit to left center, scoring Kinnison. Benavidez drove in McCown on a single to center field to give the Comets a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, ASU's Chase Pendley singled, stole second and third and scored on a Tate Greene grounder.
UTD capped the game with three runs in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Amoroso bunted and reached, allowing
Albert Garza to score. Benavidez followed with a two-run double.

Tobin Oler (3-1) started and picked up the win, allowing three hits, one run and two walks with four strikeouts over six-plus innings.

Tag Pacot earned his fifth save of the season, striking out four and allowing one walk over three frames.
- Benavidez was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double.
- McCown walked twice and scored twice.

Gavin Barker was 2-for-4 as well.
Angelo State Performances
- Shortstop Payton Bush recorded a double, the only extra-base hit for the Rams.
- Austin Beck walked twice and stole two bases.
- Chance Douglas (1-2) started and took the loss. He gave up four hits, two runs and a walk with one strikeout over 1.1 innings.
