RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team won the first game of the Lone Star Conference series against UT Permian Basin 9-5 at the UTD Baseball Field Friday afternoon.
The Comets (19-8 LSC) scored a run in each of the first six innings while starter
Seth Taylor threw an efficient 68 pitches over six scoreless frames. First baseman
Alex Miller hit a solo home run in the second and left fielder
Chris Benavidez blasted his fifth of the season in the fifth.
The Falcons (8-19 LSC) finally got on the board in the top of the seventh, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Cruz Garcia and an RBI single from Marcos Castro.
Miller connected on a two-run home run in the seventh to put UTD up 8-2. Center fielder
Austin Wallace was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a balk, stole third and scored on an errant throw to give the Comets a 9-2 advantage.
UTPB scored three runs in the top of the ninth, including a two-run pinch hit homer from James Nolan over the left field fence.
The Comets outhit the Falcons 11-8.
UT Dallas Performances
- Taylor (3-1) picked up the win, allowing four hits, two runs, one walk and two hit batters with a pair of strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

Kasey Klyng closed out the game, getting the final two outs.

- Benavidez doubled and home run with a pair of RBI and a walk.

Albert Garza doubled, scored twice, stole a base and drew three walks. He is now tied for fourth on UTD's career walks list with 73.

- Alden Quintanilla had two hits, including a double, and scored.
- Castro was 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI and a sacrifice bunt.
- Timmy LaChappa (1-5) started and took the loss, allowing 10 hits, five runs, three walks and struck out four.
