ODESSA, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team won both games of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at UT Permian Basin at the UTPB Softball Park Sunday afternoon. The Comets (7-13, 5-11 LSC) used a run-rule to take the first game 8-0 in five innings, then rallied to defeat the Falcons (11-18, 2-16 LSC) 6-3 in the finale.
Game One Highlights
- Freshman
Mere Cavazos threw a two-hit shutout with one strikeout on an efficient 55 pitches.Â
- The game started with a single by
Claire Pollack and home run to right center from
Julia Maniscalco.Â

Chloe Grimmer led off the second by being hit by a pitch and
Sarah Olenick and Pollack followed with singles.
- Freshman third baseman
Rachel Wallace drove in Grimmer and Olenick with a base hit through the left side to give UTD a 4-0 lead.
- Three hits and two errors led to a four-run third inning for the Comets. Olenick recorded an RBI double and Grimmer stole home as part of a double steal with
Megan DeWitt.
UT Dallas in Game One
- Cavazos earned her first victory and shutout of the season.
- Maniscalco's home run was her second of the year.
- Pollack went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Wallace drove in two runs and stole a base.

Sophia Martinez recorded a double.
- Olenick went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs.
- Grimmer recorded a sac bunt, stole a base and scored twice.
UT Permian Basin in Game One
- Jessica Cantrell recorded a double.
- Angelina Arriaga singled.
- Cantrell (6-6) also started and took the loss in the circle. She allowed nine hits, six earned runs and struck out five over three innings.
- Presley Crawford threw two scoreless frames.
Game Two Highlights
- UTD outhit UTPB 9-2 in the second game.
- Amathyst Gonzalez put the Falcons on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run double.
- Sophomore catcher
Angela Hamilton singled and scored on an error to make the game 2-1 in the second.
- Maniscalco singled and scored on a double from
Rachel Wallace, tying the game at 2-2 in the third.
- UTPB regained the lead in the third on a double-steal with Gonzalez taking second base and Carlee Quintero stealing home.
- Comet first baseman
Cadence Hernandez led the sixth off with a walk and was pinch-run for by
Megan Stulc, who moved to third after a Grimmer double. Senior
Avery Martin followed with a double down the left field line, giving UTD a 4-3 advantage.
- Pollack was hit by a pitch to start the seventh and scored on an
Audrey Messer pinch-hit double.Â
- Messer later scored the final run from third on a double-steal attempt.Â
Comets in Game Two
- Pollack went 2-for-2 with a run scored and moved into seventh place on the Comet career hits list with 146. She was also hit by a pitch twice.
- Messer, Wallace, Grimmer and Martin each recorded doubles.
- Wallace was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Savannah Vanderpool (2-0) struck out a season-best seven batters, allowing one run, one run and three walks in 4.1 innings or relief to pick up the victory.
- Sophomore
Katie Hart earned the save with two strikeouts in two perfect innings.
Falcons in Game Two
- Priscilla Medina (3-7) gave up seven hits, three earned runs and two walks with a strikeout over five innings in the losing effort.
- Gonzalez doubled, drove in two runs and walked twice to go with a stolen base.
- Quintero scored, was hit by a pitch and stole two bases.
- Ilyssa Foisy also recorded a hit.
