RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team came up with a Lone Star Conference doubleheader split against Western New Mexico at the UTD Softball Field on Friday evening. The visiting Mustangs (15-17, 11-11 LSC) took the opener 5-2, while the Comets (8-16, 6-12 LSC) won the second contest 4-1.
Game One Highlights
- WNMU started the scoring with a two-run homer to right field from catcher Addisen Byers in the top of the second.
- In the bottom of the frame, third baseman
Rachel Wallace led off with a single, was bunted to second by
Chloe Grimmer and scored on a
Cadence Hernandez base hit.Â
- The Mustangs scored three runs in the top of the fifth, including a two-run double from Hannah Martinez.
- The final run of the game came on a solo home run to right field for Comet right fielder
Julia Maniscalco.
- WNMU outhit UTD 9-4.
UT Dallas in Game OneÂ
- Maniscalco's home run was her third of the year. She also drew a walk.
- Wallace, Hernandez and Grimmer each had a hit.
- Sophomore
Audrey Messer walked twice.

Mere Cavazos (1-8) started and took the loss for the Comets in the circle.
- Freshman
Savannah Vanderpool retired the final seven batters of the game with two strikeouts and no hits allowed.Â
Western New Mexico in Game One
- Alix De Anda (5-6) threw the complete game victory with strikeouts and giving up four hits, two runs and three walks.
- Martinez went 3-for-3 with two runs, a double and a run scored.
- Byers' home run was her seventh of the year.
Game Two Highlights
- The Comets outhit the Mustangs 7-3.
- Abbi Markus hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the first.
- UTD answered in the bottom of the inning when
Claire Pollack reached on an infield single, moved to third on an
Avery Martin double and scored with a sacrifice fly by Wallace.
- Maniscalco blasted a two-run homer to center field in the third to put the Comets up 3-1.
- In the sixth, Wallace led off with a base hit, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch for the final 4-1 tally.
Comets in Game Two

Katie Hart (1-1) earned her first win of the year. She struck out four batters with three hits, one run and three walks allowed.Â
- Vanderpool struck out five with one walk in two innings to earn her first save.
- Maniscalco was 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double and her fourth home run of the year.
- Martin and
McKenna Holm each doubled.
- Wallace recorded a single, run scored, RBI, sac fly and stolen base.
Mustangs in Game Two
- Markus hit a home run and walked.
- Jenna Peters and Ciara Spencer both singled.Â
- Labraida Tenorio (4-7) struck out seven with seven hits, four runs and a walk over 5.1 innings in the loss.
