UTD Finishes Off Sweep of Texas A&M International

LAREDO, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team completed its seventh Lone Star Conference series victory of the season, finishing off a sweep of Texas A&M International with a 17-5, eight-inning win at Jorge Haynes Field Sunday.

With the win, the Comets (26-8 LSC) remain in a tie for first place with UT Tyler. 

Once again, the offense dominated the series, outhitting the Dustdevils (11-23) 60-32 with a .438 average. 

Game Highlights
- Trent McCown led off the top of the second with a solo home run - his 10th of the season.
- Chris Benavidez reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead in the second.
- UTD scored five runs on four hits, three walks and two hit batters in the fourth.
- In the fifth, Alex Miller was hit by a pitch and scored on an Austin Wallace double. Albert Garza followed with a base hit, plating Wallace for a 9-0 lead.
- TAMIU got on the board with two runs in the fifth.
- Miller drove in Benavidez with a base hit in the sixth to make the game 10-2.
- A Jacob Angell triple to center field, scoring Derek Garcia gave the Dustdevils another run in the bottom of the sixth.
- The home team added two more runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 10-5.
- The Comets invoked the run-rule with seven runs on six hits in the top of the eighth. Junior shortstop Jake Amoroso started the big inning with a two-run single. 
- UTD outhit TAMIU 17-9 while drawing seven walks and having six batters hit by a pitch.

UT Dallas Performances
- Five Comets recorded two or more hits and two RBI.
- Benavidez drew two walks, singled and scored four runs.
- Garza went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
- Senior catcher Nico Fernandez extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a pair of singles and two RBI.
- Amoroso went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a walk.
- Miller was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBI and two walks.
- Wallace also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two batted in.
- Tobin Oler improved to 5-1 on the year, striking out six batters over six innings.
- Kole Allen threw a perfect eighth inning to finish the game.

Texas A&M International Performances
- Rudy Guardioli (0-2) lasted three innings in the losing start.
- Ciro Benavdies was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. 
- David Benitez went 2-for-4 with a double.

Up Next
UTD will begin a four-game series with #17/18/27 at home against UT Tyler at 2 p.m. Thursday.
