DALLAS - The UT Dallas baseball team lost the series opener to UT Tyler in the battle for first place in the Lone Star Conference on Thursday night. The Patriots (27-8 LSC) defeated the Comets (26-9 LSC) 12-3 at Horner Ballpark.
Game Highlights
- UTT outhit UTD 17-8.
- The Patriots scored four runs in the second, which included a solo home run to center field off of Connor Clark's bat.
- They went up 7-0 in the fourth on four hits and an error.
- In the bottom of the fourth,
Trent McCown singled,
Chris Benavidez doubled and
Jake Amoroso hit an infield single, plating McCown.
- First baseman
Alex Miller followed with a ground ball that knocked in Benavidez to make it 7-2.
- McCown launched a solo home run over the batter's eye fence to straightaway center field for the Comets' third run of the game.
- Tanner Hornback doubled and scored on a single by Cole Ketzner to put the Patriots up 8-3 in the sixth.
- Kentzer connected on a three-run homer over the left field fence in the eighth.
- Hornback was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the Patriots' final run.
- The Comets left nine batters on base, including the bases loaded twice.
UT Dallas Performances
- McCown went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. His home run was his 11th of the season and he moved into second place on the UTD career list with 24.
- Amoroso went 3-for-4 with a RBI. It was his sixth three-hit game of the year.
- Benavidez improved his hitting streak to 10 games by going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
- Senior catcher
Nico Fernandez threw out a runner trying to steal. He moved into a tie for second on the career list with 24 runners caught stealing.
- Starter
Seth Taylor (4-2) took the loss, lasting 1.2 innings.

Gavin Hickman struck out two batters in a scoreless seventh inning.
UT Tyler Performances
- Ethan Jezierski (3-2) earned the win in relief. He struck out three and allowed three hits in 4.1 scoreless frames.
- Kentzer was 4-for-6 with 5 RBI and his 11th home run of the year.
- Clark was 3-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored a home run.
- Brock Bearden recorded a double, two walks, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored three times.
- Hornback was 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs, a double and a walk.
