RICHARDSON, Texas - Sophomore pitcher
Katie Hart threw a five-hit shutout in game two as the UT Dallas softball team defeated Midwestern State 3-0 at the UTD Softball Field Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs (6-32, 4-24 Lone Star Conference) took the opener from the Comets (12-24, 10-18 LSC) 6-1.
Game One Highlights
- UTD took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fourth, leading to
Sophia Martinez drawing a bases-loaded walk, which scored
Sarah Olenick.
- MSU answered with four runs on four hits and an error in the fifth.
- Hayeli Acosta recorded a two-run double as the big hit in the inning.
- Stormy Daniel hit a two-run homer down the left field line to make the game 6-1 in the sixth.
- The Mustangs outhit the Comets 8-4.
UT Dallas in Game One

Megan DeWitt and
Isabella Quave each recorded a hit.
- Martinez,
Chloe Grimmer and
Cadence Hernandez recorded walks.
- Senior second baseman
Claire Pollack posted a sacrifice bunt.
- Grimmer also stole a base, her seventh of the season.

Mere Cavazos (3-9) threw all seven innings in the losing effort.
Midwestern State in Game One
- Kayleigh Bowers (2-14) struck out four and allowed three walks, four hits and an unearned run for the win in the circle.
- Daniel was 2-for-3 with the two-run home run, a double and two runs scored.
- Mia Sanchez went 2-for-3.
- Acosta went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in.
Game Two Highlights
- Hart (3-3) gave up just five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in the shutout victory.
- All three runs came in the second inning for the Comets.
- With one out, freshman catcher
Megan DeWitt drew a walk and moved to second on a bunt hit by Pollack. Martinez then walked to load the bases.
- Junior
Blair Collier followed with a double to the left field corner, scoring DeWitt and Pollack.
- Wallace recorded a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Martinez to score.
Comets in Game Two
- The shutout was the first for Hart this season and her second complete game.
- Collier had the only extra-base hit with the two-run double.
- Wallace drove in a run on the sac fly and was hit by a pitch.

Mustangs in Game Two
- Daniel was 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and a walk.
- Acosta went 1-for-3 with a walk.
- Isabela Cornell (2-10) took the loss, allowing two walks, three hits and three runs over two innings.
- Audrey Sierra allowed two hits, a walk and one strikeout over four scoreless innings.
