UTD Defeated by #5 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team lost both games of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to #5 West Texas A&M at Schaeffer Park on Friday. The Lady Buffs (38-6, 28-4 LSC) took the opener 13-1 in five innings, then topped the Comets (12-26, 10-20 LSC) 18-2 in five innings in game two. 

Game One Highlights
- WT scored three runs in the first, which included a two-run home run by Abby Howell.
- Freshman left fielder Rachel Wallace hit a solo home run in the top of the third for UTD. 
- Howell homered again to start the bottom of the third. 
- The Lady Buffs went on to score eight runs in the inning, capped by a grand slam by Jordyn De Los Santos.
- WT tacked on two more runs in the fourth for the 13-1 score.

UT Dallas in Game One 
- Wallace's home run was her fourth of the season, tying for the team lead.
- Junior shortstop Blair Collier recorded a double.
- Haley Whitefield and Cadence Hernandez each drew walks.
- Wallace and Brooke Bouldin were hit by pitches.
- Mere Cavazos (3-10) took the loss in the start.

West Texas A&M in Game One
- Brooke Janning (17-2) struck out four, allowing one run, one hit and four walks in three innings for the win.
- Howell had two home runs for three RBI.
- De Los Santos doubled, homered, drove in four runs and scored twice.
- Mya Chacon was 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Game Two Highlights
- Bella Holland led the bottom of the first off with a home run to start a six-run inning for the Lady Buffs.
- Comet senior second baseman Claire Pollack hit a solo home run in the top of the second - her first of the year.
- Howell hit her third home run of the day, a two-run blast in the second as WT went on to lead 11-1 at the end of the second.
- The Lady Buffs scored six more in the third.
- With two outs in the top of the fourth, Wallace doubled to right-center and stole third. She then scored on a base hit from Megan DeWitt
- Landri Holcomb hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth for the final run of the game.

Comets in Game Two
- Pollack's home run was the 11th of her career, moving her into the school's all-time top 10.
- Wallace doubled and scored with a walk and a stolen base.
- DeWitt recorded an RBI-single.
- Audrey Messer drew two walks.
- Bouldin walked and was hit by a pitch.
- Chloe Grimmer walked and stole a base.
- Katie Hart (3-4) took the loss in the circle.

Lady Buffs in Game Two
- Laci Peskey (17-4) allowed four walks, one run and a hit with a strikeout over three innings for the win.
- Tessia Guzman threw a perfect fifth inning.
- Holland was 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.
- Howell had the home run, three runs scored and two RBI.
- Colborn also scored three times and drove int wo.
- Heaven Moreno went 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored.
- Chacon went 3-for-3.

UTD will travel to Eastern New Mexico in Portales for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday.
