RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team opened its final Lone Star Conference series of the season with an 11-8 victory over St. Edward's at the UTD Baseball Field on Friday.
Out of the 13 series this season, the Comets (33-14 LSC) have won 11 openers. They are tied for third in the league standings with three games remaining.
The Comets outhit the Hilltoppers (28-18) 16-11 in the game.
Game Highlights
- UTD scored in the bottom of the first when
Chris Benavidez drew a walk and was knocked in by catcher
Nico Fernandez with a double to left center.
- SEU went up 2-1 in the top of the third, taking advantage of an error and wild pitch.
- Benavidez blasted his 10th home run of the year over the left field fence in the bottom of the third to tie it up.
- The Hilltoppers regained the lead in the fourth when Trevor Sebek reached on an infield single and later scored on a ground ball by Nicodemus Ruedas.
- They took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on an RBI-double by Austin Page.
- The Comets took a 6-2 advantage with four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the fifth. Fernandez connected on his second double of the game, driving in two runs during the rally.
- Ruedas tied the game in the eighth on a two-run single.Â
- UTD regained the lead with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth.
Peyton Peoples hit a two-run homer to left field to take the lead for good.
Kole Kinnison also had a two-run double.
- SEU added two more runs in the top of the ninth for the 11-8 final score.
UT Dallas Performances
- Benavidez went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, four runs scored and two walks.
- Fernandez was 3-for-4 with three batted in, two runs and a pair of doubles.
- Kinnison went 3-for-4 with a run, two RBI and a double.
- Peoples' home run was his second of the year.
- Garza recorded a pair of hits, two runs and stole a base.

St. Edward's Performances
- Liam Miller (1-1) took the loss in relief, allowing three runs, five hits and two walks in two innings.
- Ruedas drove in three runs, drew a walk and recorded a single.
- Page went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a double and a walk.
- Sebek was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
- Connor Cox hit a double and walked three times.
