Comets Drop Two Games to Hilltoppers

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team lost both games of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to St. Edward's at the UTD Baseball Field on Saturday. The Hilltoppers (30-18 LSC) took the first seven-inning game 2-1, then defeated the Comets (33-16 LSC) 7-3 in the seven-frame nightcap.

Game One Highlights
- Second baseman Albert Garza led the bottom of the first off with a base hit, moved to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a Nico Fernandez ground ball for UTD's only run.
- Both of SEU's runs were unearned after an error in the top of the second. Austin Page scored on a wild pitch and Trevor Sebek knocked in Grayson Doggett with a base hit.
- The Comets had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but could not get the tying run across.
- Despite giving up a season-low two hits, the UTD offense could not find an answer to SEU starter Connor Freeman.

UT Dallas in Game One
- The Comets had eight hits - all singles.
- Left fielder Alex Miller went 2-for-3.
- Garza singled and scored.
- Fernandez drove in his 54th run of the season.
- Baley Ray (3-1) started and struck out a season-best five batters. He allowed two unearned runs, two hits and three walks in 3.1 innings.
- AJ Ripley struck out one over 1.2 scoreless innings.
- Gavin Hickman allowed two walks in two scoreless frames.

St. Edward's in Game One
- Freeman (8-1) threw a complete game, allowing eight hits, one run and three walks over the seven innings.
- Sebek had a hit and drove in a run.
- Nicodemus Ruedas singled and was hit by a pitch.
- Page drew two walks and scored.

Game Two Highlights
- The Hilttoppers scored the first run of the game in the second. Doggett led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a squeeze by Ben Merriman.
- Connor Cox hit a three-run homer to left center to give SEU a 4-0 lead in the fourth.
- An error led to the fifth run for the Hilltoppers in the fifth.
- Merriman led the sixth off with a double and later scored on a David Ripple sacrifice fly for a 6-0 advantage.
- UTD got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Miller led off with a walk, moved to third on a Trent McCown double and scored on a Jake Amoroso grounder.
- Senior Austin Wallace followed with a two-run homer to left to cut the deficit in half.
- Another sac bunt by Kain Sanchez, scoring Dylan Tate gave the Hilltopers the 7-3 win.
- SEU outhit UTD 9-6. Both teams left nine on base.

Comets in Game Two
- Wallace went 2-for-3 with two RBI. His home run was the first of the season.
- McCown was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double.
- Fernandez' double was his 12th of the season.
- Christian Robb (1-1) took the loss in relief.

Hilltoppers in Game Two
- Finn Mignerey (7-2) earned the win. He allowed five hits, three runs, four walks and struck out one in six innings.
- Carson Blakeley struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh.
- Cox hit his 13th home run of the season.
- SEU stole six bases, including three by Kade Nathman, who was also 2-for-3. 
- Doggett was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Up Next
The Comets will wrap up the 2026 campaign against the Hilltoppers at noon on Sunday. They will honor 16 seniors before the game.
