Comets and Patriots Renew Softball Rivalry

RICHARDSON, Texas - Playing for the first time since 2019, the UT Dallas softball team lost both games of the Lone Star Conference doubleheader to #23 UT Tyler at the UTD Softball Field on Friday evening. The visiting Patriots (38-10, 30-6 LSC) won the first game 12-6, then defeated the Comets (13-29, 11-23 LSC) 13-1 in five innings in the nightcap.

Game One Highlights
- UTD took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Audrey Messer was hit by a pitch, scoring Rachel Wallace.
- Brooke Bouldin followed with a bases-loaded walk, plating Claire Pollack.
- Avery Martin scored the third run of the inning on a passed ball.
- UTT scored four runs on four hits and an error in the second. Keona Wells had a two-run bloop double in the inning.
- Freshman center fielder Chloe Grimmer tied the game with a solo home run to left center to lead off the second.
- Dezirae Lopez put the Patriots up in the top of the third with a two-run single.
- Messer led the third off by being hit by a pitch and pinch runner Sydney Wheeler later scored from third on a wild pitch to make the game 6-5.
- In the fourth, Sydney Linn gave UTT an 8-5 advantage with a two-run home run over the left field fence.
- UTD took advantage of an error in the fifth and Wallace knocked in McKenna Holm on a ground ball for an 8-6 score.
- Kaylee Cavazos recorded a two-run single for the Patriots in the sixth.
- UT Tyler added two more runs in the top of the seventh for the 12-6 final score
- The Patriots outhit the Comets 13-9.
  UT Dallas in Game One
- Grimmer's home run was her third of the season.
- Pollack went 2-for-4 with a double.
- Martin was 2-for-4 as well.
- Bouldin drew two walks and had an RBI.
- Messer broke the Comet single-season record with her 11th hit by pitch. 
- Mere Cavazos (4-11) took the loss, but only allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings.

UT Tyler in Game One
- Addison Martindale (4-2) picked up the win in relief.
- Linn was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI, two walks and the home run.
- Lopez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
- Kaelyn Lerma was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a double.

Game Two Highlights
- The Comets committed six errors and the Patriots led in hits 14-3.
- Only three of UTT's runs were earned.
- Three errors in the second contributed to an eight-run inning for UTT.
- UTD's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Cadence Hernandez doubled, was bunted to second by Blair Collier and scored on a base hit up the middle by Martin.

Comets in Game Two
- Martin was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
- Hernandez doubled and scored.
- Sarah Olenick had a hit and drew a walk.
- Wallace was hit by a pitch and walked.
- Collier and Angela Hamilton laid down sacrifice bunts.
- Katie Hart (3-6) started and took the loss.

Patriots in Game Two
- Alli Kimball (9-1) started and earned the win. She allowed one hit, two walks and struck out two in three scoreless frames.
- Keona Wells was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Cavazos doubled, scored twice, had two RBI and a walk.
- Taryn Barney was 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
- Megan Lau was also 2-for-2 with two runs.

Up Next
UT Dallas will host Texas Woman's in their final home date of the season on Sunday at 4 p.m. They will honor the seniors before the game.
