RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team took on Lubbock Christian in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader Thursday at UTD Softball Field, which resulted in a split. The Comets (11-23, 9-17 LSC) took the opener 4-1, while the Lady Chaps (19-19, 15-13 LSC) took game two 8-7.
Game One Highlights
- UTD freshman
Mere Cavazos (3-8) allowed an unearned run in the top of the first, then shut down LCU by allowing just two hits and two walks.
- With two outs in the top of the first, Kadin Vire doubled and scored on an error on the next at bat.
- Freshman left fielder
Rachel Wallace led off the bottom of the frame by being hit by a pitch, stealing second and advancing to third on a ground ball. She then scored on a wild pitch to tie it up.
- Senior catcher
Avery Martin gave the Comets the lead with a solo home run to center field to make it 2-1.
- Martin hit her second home run of the game, a two-run blast to left field, in the third for the final 4-1 score.
- The Comets turned a big double play in the fourth on a line drive to right fielder
McKenna Holm, who doubled up the Lady Chap runner at first.Â
- Cavazos went on to retire eight batters in a row from the fourth to seventh innings.
- UTD outhit LCU 5-2.
UT Dallas in Game One
- Cavazos has won her last two starts, going 12 innings without allowing an earned run.
- Martin drove in three runs and became the 17th Comet to hit two home runs in the same game in program history.

Audrey Messer recorded a hit, scored and was hit by a pitch.

Lubbock Christian in Game OneÂ
- Alexis Clark (7-7) took the loss for the Lady Chaps, allowing three runs and three hits in 2.1 innings.
- Kendall Ward struck out four and gave up a run and two hits in the final 3.2 innings.
- Vire had the only extra-base hit with a double and scored the only run.
- Coryn Burris singled.
Game Two Highlights
- The Comets erased a 7-1 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Lady Chaps recorded a final run in the top of the seventh, which proved to be the game-winner.
- LCU led 3-0 in the first after a two-run homer from Burris and an RBI double by Brianna Chambers-Lee.
- They went up 5-0 in the second and added another run in the third.
- Grimmer singled and later scored on a single to right from Martin in the bottom of the third to put UTD on the board.
- Julie Muniz recorded a run-scoring single in the fifth for a 7-1 lead.
- Grimmer made the contest 7-4 with a three-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth.
- A pair of errors led to a run later in the inning.
Sarah Olenick followed with a two-run single up the middle to tie the game.
- In the top of the seventh, Ava Castillo led off with an infield single, moved to third base after a bunt and an error and scored on an Ashlinn Hamilton blooper to right.
Comets in Game Two
- Grimmer was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Her home run was the second of the year.

Claire Pollack went 2-for-3 and scored.
- Olenick was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a pair of walks.
- Martin drove in another run, singled and walked.
- Angela Hamitlon drew a walk and scored.

Savannah Vanderpool (2-3) took the loss in the circle.
Lady Chaps in Game Two
- Ward (5-3) earned the win in relief.
- Chambers-Lee was 2-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and a double.
- Muniz was 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a sac fly.
- Vire drew a pair of walks.
- Hamilton went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
- Piper Garcia was 1-for-1 with two runs scored, two walks and a sac bunt.
Up Next
UTD will host Midwestern State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
