Travis Carruthers, a record-setting point guard who played four seasons for the Comets and was a co-winner of the team MVP Award as a senior, began serving as Terry Butterfield's assistant coach in the 2007-08 season. In the spring, he serves as the assistant coach for the UTD men's golf squad.

In his four-year playing career, Carruthers left an indelible mark on the men's basketball program by becoming the all-time leader in assists (411) -- and, in fact, was one of the nation's leaders in assists during the 2005-06 season. He also holds UTD career records in free throw percentage (.878) and 3-point percentage (.385). Carruthers earned the starting point guard gig for Butterfield's 2004-05 team, and capped his career three seasons later by receiving the UTD Male Student-Athlete of the Year award.

A native of Georgetown, Texas, he earned his Interdisciplinary Studies degree from UTD in 2007 and earned his master's degree from UT Dallas in 2011.
