Jimmy Witten has been a staple in the Comets’ frontcourt since he was freshman, starting in 56 games since the 2007-08 season. The junior played a pivotal role on UTD’s record-setting team last year, as the Comets advanced to the “Elite Eight” in the NCAA Tournament. In his two years at UTD, Witten has averaged 8.9 points per game while hauling in 6.1 rebounds per contest. He has led the Comets in rebounding the past two seasons.

“He’s got great ball skills for a big kid,” said UTD coach Terry Butterfield. “He’s got excellent post moves and the ability to shoot it on the perimeter.”

2008-09: Started all 31 games en route to totaling 8.9 points per game…UTD’s leading rebounder (5.9 per game)…Academic All-Conference selection.

2007-08: Played in all but one of the Comets’ 26 games…led team with 6.3 rebounds per game while averaging 27.0 minutes on the floor…third on the team in scoring (8.7 points)…scored a career-high 19 points in UTD’s 82-72 win over Austin College on Dec. 6…named to ASC All-East Freshman Team.

HIGH SCHOOL: First-team all-district standout on a Clear Lake HS squad that advanced to the state regional finals his senior year…won second-team all district honors as a junior…Houston Area Basketball Coaches’ Association All-Star selection and member of Academic All-State team.
