Abby Sterling 1996-2023

Abby Sterling joined the UT Dallas softball staff in September of 2022 after a standout playing career.

In her first season, the Comets reached the ASC Championship Tournament with a 24-18 record. She helped coach eight all-conference selections, including the ASC Tri-Pitcher of the Year.

Sterling spent the 2021-22 academic year as an assistant coach and residence life specialist at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas, helping the Roadrunners to a 38-16 season. She spent the previous year at University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena where she was an assistant and strength and conditioning coach.

Sterling played for former American Southwest Conference rival Louisiana College in Pineville, earning All-ASC honorable mention in 2018 and was a second team selection in 2019. In 75 games for the Wildcats, she hit .341 with 71 hits, 25 runs, 16 doubles, 13 home runs and 59 RBI to go with a .606 slugging percentage. She primarily was used at first base and as a designated player. Sterling also earned Academic All-ASC honors as a freshman.

Prior to LC, Sterling spent three years at NCAA Division I powerhouse University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She hit .400 (4-for-10) with two runs scored, a double, a home run and five RBI in 12 games for the Ragin' Cajuns. She was a two-time Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll selection and was a part of three Sun Belt championship teams.

She lettered four seasons as a third baseman for West Brook High School in Beaumont, Texas where she was a four-time All-District selection. Blasting 28 home runs in her career, Sterling batted .400 or better each season and helped the Bruins to the playoffs twice.

Sterling graduated from Louisiana College with a Bachelor's in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations in 2019.
