Eric Smith graduated from Mesquite High School in 1984 and graduated from University of North Texas in 1988 with a degree in Advertising (Art).  Smith was a four-year starter at both UNT and at Mesquite High School.  As a High School Head Coach at Plano East and Richardson High, Smith was named District Coach of the Year.
