Kanute Drugan

One of the winningest coaches in NCAA Division III women's soccer history, Kanute Drugan became just the second head coach of the UT Dallas women’s soccer program prior to the 2014 season.
 
In his eight seasons with the Comets, Drugan has maintained an 102-36-9 (.724) overall record while leading UTD to eight straight trips to the American Southwest Conference Tournament. His squads made seven consecutive appearances in the ASC semifinals from 2014-20. During the 2020-21 season, Drugan led the Comets to the ASC title match. He is 54-20-5 (.715) against ASC opponents while at UTD.
 
Prior to his arrival at UTD, Drugan coached at both Aurora University in Illinois and Washington College in Maryland, and has now recorded 25 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He boasts an all-time record of 341-142-25 (.696) and has led his teams to eight NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances. Entering the 2019 season, Drugan ranks No. 15 on the NCAA D-III active wins list and No. 25 on the all-time list for NCAA D-III women’s coaches.
 
In his eight seasons with the Comets, Drugan has mentored 15 USC All-Region players, including the first All-American in Comet history in Keely Fillman in 2019. He has had 52 players named All-ASC.

He earned most of his success while serving as the head women's soccer coach at Aurora near Chicago, Illinois. In his 15 years with the Spartans, Drugan's teams achieved 229 wins, 13 regular-season conference championships and 11 conference tournament championships, including seven straight from 2005-11. Drugan's Aurora squad was ranked in the final national Top 25 poll on three occasions, ending the 2002 season ranked ninth, 25th in 2007, and 8th in 2011.
 
Drugan is an eight-time conference Coach of the Year during his career after claiming his first such ASC honor in 2018.  While at Aurora, he was tabbed Northern Illinois Iowa Conference (NIIAC) Coach of the Year four times (1997, 1999, 2000, 2005) and Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Coach of the Year  three times (2006, 2007, 2010). In his 15 seasons with Aurora, Drugan coached 93 first team all-conference honorees, 13 all-region performers and 12 conference Players of the Year. In addition, Drugan's squads boasted the highest team grade point average among all of Aurora's varsity sports during each of his 15 seasons, annually earning a NSCAA College Team Academic Award.

He was equally involved in the coaching community, serving seven years on the NCAA D-III Regional Advisory Committee for the Central Region. For eight seasons, he served as his conference's women's soccer committee chair and nine years as the commissioner of the City of Aurora Sports Festival.

After his stint at Aurora, Drugan took over a struggling women's soccer program at Washington College in 2012. In his first of two seasons with the Shorewomen, Drugan guided Washington to the best-ever conference record in program history and the squad's best winning percentage in more than a decade.

A native of Salineville, Ohio, Drugan is a 1977 graduate of Ohio University, earning his bachelor's degree in English and government.
