Kaylie McHugh joined the UT Dallas volleyball staff as an assistant in August 2022 after a successful NCAA Division I playing career in both indoor and beach.
In her first season at UTD, the Comets went 21-6 overall and won the American Southwest Conference regular season at 14-2, They went to on to win the ASC Championship for the eighth time in program history and advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. McHugh was part of the ASC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022.
McHugh coached six All-ASC selections, including the Setter of the Year and Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, as well as one AVCA All-Region pick in 2022.
She started her playing career at Tulane where she was an All-American in beach volleyball as a sophomore. McHugh was also the Louisiana Libero of the Year and a three-time All-American Athletic Conference selection. She set the AAC record with most aces in a season with 63 and was the first Green Wave player to surpass the 2,000 career dig mark, racking up 2,379 (4.50 per set). McHugh also broke school records with most digs in a match, digs in a season and most beach wins in a season.
McHugh wrapped up her playing career in 2022 on the TCU beach team as team captain. She also earned Second Team All-America honors and garnered the AVCA Top Flight Award for the Horned Frogs.
She has coaching experience for club beach teams and was a strength and conditioning intern while at Tulane.Â
McHugh graduated from Tulane in 2020 with a degree in Psychology and minor in Sociology. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Liberal Arts at TCU.
