On June 3, 2022, Angela Marin was named Director of Athletics for UT Dallas after serving in the role on an interim basis since October 2021. She became the first Hispanic female to lead an NCAA Division III athletic program in the division’s history and is one of five Hispanic female athletic directors in all of NCAA.
Since becoming Director of Athletics, Marin has overseen one of the most transformative periods in the Comets’ history. She spearheaded the transition from NCAA Division III to NCAA Division II membership and led UTD into the Lone Star Conference. Under her leadership, the department expanded its administrative structure with the addition of assistant athletic director positions in compliance, academic success, and creative strategy, strengthening operational effectiveness and student-athlete support. UTD has also invested in improvements in video production and social media, including adding videoboards to the Activity Center.
Competitive and academic success have also been reflected during Marin’s tenure. Since taking over the department, the UTD has won 10 American Southwest Conference championships, while Comet student-athletes earned seven All-America honors and four Academic All-America selections. She also established UT Dallas’ chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society for student-athletes. That commitment to academic excellence culminated in UT Dallas receiving the NCAA Division II Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence, one of the NCAA’s highest academic distinctions.
Marin joined the UT Dallas staff in 2012 and quickly became one of the key figures in the advancement of Comet athletics. She has been equally involved on the UTD campus, the American Southwest Conference, and NCAA Division III during her tenure with the department. In 2017, she was promoted to Associate Athletic Director and also served as the department’s Director of Compliance.
Previously, Marin directed oversight of seven of UTD’s 15 varsity sports and oversaw the certification of more than 450 Comet student-athletes annually. She served as UTD’s Senior Woman Administrator and was the department’s liaison with the campus Title IX office. In addition, she was the sponsor for UTD’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
She worked closely with the ASC in assisting the league’s development and planning for its annual SAAC meeting while also helping coordinate travel opportunities for ASC student-athletes to attend the NCAA Convention. Additionally, Marin wrote the by-laws and best practices for the ASC Compliance Directors group.
Marin has represented UT Dallas on several NCAA committees, including chairing the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee. She has served on the NCAA Regional Rules Subcommittee and the NCAA Division III Convention Planning Subcommittee. She has also served on UTD’s Staff Council and is a member of the University’s Minors on Campus Committee, Compliance Advisory Committee, and Title IX Committee. Marin also served on the Regional Ranking Committee for women’s tennis.
A product of NCAA leadership development programs, Marin has given UT Dallas a strong voice within the association. She was named the 2017 NADIIIAA Emerging Athletic Administrator and is a graduate of Women Leaders in College Sports Executive Institute, the NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement, Leadership Enhancement Institute, and the NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute. Marin is a 2021 NCAA Pathway Graduate and an active member of Women Leaders in College Sports and NACDA. She has served on the NCAA Division III Management Council (2021–25) and on the NCAA Division III Constitutional Convention Advisory Committee.
A native of The Colony, Texas, Marin came to UT Dallas after serving as Associate Athletic Director at the University of New Orleans. She spent six years at UNO in both administrative and coaching capacities. Marin began her tenure at UNO as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball program and later became Director of Basketball Operations for the Privateer women’s basketball team. After three seasons with the women’s basketball program, she assumed the role of Associate Athletic Director.
Marin earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Texas A&M University in 2006. While at Texas A&M, she served as a student assistant with the Aggie men’s basketball program, assisting with the organization of the 6th Man Club, the program’s men’s basketball alumni support group.
