Stephen Ambrose corner kick hit off an HSU player and into the net just 17 minutes into the match. Though UTD's defense played shutdown soccer the rest of the way, the Comets then got an insurance goal from
Kevin White with just five minutes remaining in regulation to wrap up the win and send UTD back to the championship game.
UTD outshot the Cowboys, 14-11; but HSU was more efficient, putting six of 11 shots on goal. UTD's
Jake Brandon was able to make saves on all six to preserve the win.
UTD was fortunate to even advance to the semifinals after Friday's quarterfinal matchup with Texas Lutheran. The Comets managed only one shot on goal the entire match, but made it count when
Michael Anyirah got the ball past the TLU goalkeeper at the 70:41 mark for the game-winning goal. UTD had been outshot 17-6 in the game and UTD's
Jake Brandon turned the Bulldogs away six times with saves.
In the other quarterfinal match, the University of the Ozarks eliminated Mississippi College, 4-2, in the Friday opener to advance to the semifinals against UT-Tyler.
