Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (10.01.09) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team didn't seem to have as much trouble with a muddy field as the McMurry team did stopping the Comets from scoring Thursday night.
Despite a 1-1/2 hour delay in starting the match due to a thunderstorm that roared through the area, the Comets did some rolling of their own, whitewashing McMurry with a 5-0 win.
With the win, the Comets (6-2-2 overall) improved to 3-1-0 in American Southwest Conference play and kept pace with two conference teams – Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons – which have yet to lose a game. The Comets will face off against HSU Saturday afternoon at 3 pm on the UTD Soccer Field.
UTD bounced back nicely from its only ASC loss last weekend and took out their frustrations on a respectable McMurry team, which fell to 2-4-3, 0-2-3 with the loss. The Comets dominated the game offensively with a 20-5 shot advantage and put 12 shots on goal, scoring five times against a pair of McMurry goalkeepers.
Justin Bailey got things started at the 18:13 mark on a 2-on-1 break with
Stephen Ambrose, who picked up the assist.
Brandon Bridgewater got a feed from
Michael Anyirah on a scramble in front of the net and made it 2-0 just before halftime. Anyiray ended the night with a goal and two assists.
Anyirah picked up another assist when
Brian Bienhoff scored his first goal of the season on another two-man break to the net six minutes into the second half. Anyirah then scored himself unassisted to make it 4-0 at the 59:52 mark and
Cory Roth and
Eric Holland combined on another rush to the net at 72:01.
UTD goalkeeper
Jake Brandon was barely challenged, stopping just one shot on goal from McMurry all night long.
