Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (10.02.10) - There are now no unbeaten teams in the American Southwest Conference men's soccer race.
The league-leading UT Dallas Comets dominated again Saturday afternoon, but fell for the first time this season in a conference match when the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor netted a Neiko Campo header 6:26 into overtime to take a 1-0 victory and claim their fourth straight win.
Despite the loss, the #24-ranked Comets (now 8-3-0 overall) still have a one game lead in the ASC with a 5-1 conference mark. UMHB, which was playing to stay in the post-season picture after two conference losses already, improved to 7-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the ASC.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for UTD.
The game-winning goal came on a long-throw-in from UMHB's Vincent Morales which reached a scrum in front of the net. The ball originally skimmed off the head of the Cru's Chris Torres before Campo was able to bump it over the head of Comet keeper
Bailey Williams.
Until that point, Williams and the Comet defense had kept the Cru at bay, giving up just seven shots throughout the match and making just one routine save through the first 90 minutes. Meanwhile, UTD was seemingly always on the attack, putting together 20 shots in regulation. Despite the onslaught, the Comets put just four shots on net, but missed a pair of other scoring opportunities when two different shots rattled off the post of UMHB's net.
UTD also had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks, but were never able to convert one.
For the Comets to defend their league-leading record, they'll have to do it mostly on the road. Only two of UTD's remaining seven matches are at home. The Comets travel to south Texas this weekend for road games at Texas Lutheran and Schreiner.
